Chicago’s Commercial Office Buildings Score High Marks for Energy Efficiency

July 13, 2015

The commercial office building sector scored high marks for energy efficiency in a just released report by the City of Chicago on the first year results of the Building Energy Use Benchmarking Ordinance.

The report confirms what the Building Owners and Managers of Association of Chicago (BOMA/Chicago) has previously stated: Absent any government mandate, Chicago’s commercial office building sector is a leader in energy sustainability both locally and nationally.

The 213 commercial office buildings covered in the report represent 61% of the buildings required to report in 2014. The median ENERGY STAR Score for commercial office buildings in Chicago was 78, with 92% of the reporting buildings being over the national median score.
