Legislation and ICC Regulation
BOMA/Chicago member buildings and the utilities, suppliers, and generators that provide them with energy are all governed by laws and rules passed by the Illinois General Assembly and the Illinois Commerce Commission.
Because energy makes up such a large part of BOMA/Chicago members’ operating expenses, BOMA/Chicago has consistently been involved in laws, rules, and other proceedings on behalf of our members. While the General Assembly passes laws governing public utilities and other energy suppliers, the Commerce Commission is the government body that implements these laws through ratemaking proceedings, rate design cases, and other quasi-judicial actions.
Through ongoing advocacy efforts, BOMA/Chicago has affected real change to the energy policies in Illinois, and is continually working to benefit members in the legislative and regulatory arenas.
