BOMA/Chicago and Rep. Kimberly Du Buclet Advance Downtown Revitalization Task Force Legislation
With a focus on strengthening Chicago’s downtown economy, BOMA/Chicago has partnered with State Representative Kimberly Du Buclet to champion legislation (House Bill 2757) creating a Downtown Revitalization Task Force. The bill successfully passed the Illinois House Labor and Commerce Committee, moving forward in the legislative process.
The Task Force, established under the Chicago Downtown Revitalization Task Force Act, would analyze economic incentives, tax structures, and post-pandemic trends that impact the downtown core. It would also explore national best practices for urban recovery and identify strategies to attract businesses, boost economic activity, and enhance the city's vitality. The Task Force will issue recommendations within 12 months of its formation.
Amy Masters, Director of Government and External Affairs for BOMA/Chicago, provided testimony in support of the legislation, highlighting the need to address the loss of union jobs, property tax challenges, and shifting economic trends. Representatives from the Chicago Loop Alliance, the Magnificent Mile Association, and the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce also emphasized the need for strategic solutions to ensure the long-term health of the Central Business District.
With committee approval secured, the bill now advances for further consideration by the legislature.
