Cook County Commission Bill Lowry joined BOMA/Chicago’s Taxation Committee
In July, Cook County Commission Bill Lowry joined BOMA/Chicago’s Taxation Committee.
The group discussed property taxes and the classification system and provided additional insight about challenges commercial office buildings are facing due to the increased burden of property taxes compounded by a sluggish return to office. While these challenges have a major impact on downtown office buildings, they also impact commercial buildings in every neighborhood across the county.
The group also talked about the importance of a strong commercial presence that contributes to a higher tax base and helps homeowner taxes and minimize tax rates.
The committee will continue to work with Commissioner Lowry and host other elected officials to discuss property taxes and advocate for property tax reform.
