Delay in Property Tax Bills Subject of Cook County Board Hearing
The Cook County Finance and Technology and Innovations Committees met in joint session on Monday, April 25 to discuss the anticipated delays in property tax billing caused by the Cook County Assessor.
Ron Tabaczynski, BOMA/Chicago Director of Government Affairs provided testimony explaining how late tax bills would negatively impact building members. Read Ron's testimony.
Board of Review Commissioner Larry Rogers cited a five month delay by the Assessor in getting valuation data to the Board of Review so that it can begin the next stage of the property tax cycle. Ultimately, the delays will be compounded leaving County Officials uncertain over when – or if – second installment bills will even go out this year or will be delayed until next year.
Commissioners also heard from concerned taxing units and tax payers about the hardships that the delays will cause.
