Overview of the 2021 Climate and Equitable Jobs Act
The Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) is the most sweeping legislation to be passed in over a decade and with its passage, Illinois will have some of the most significant clean energy and decarbonization commitments in the nation. It will require Illinois to be reliant on 100% renewable energy by 2050.
The new law is still being analyzed for impact, with the details of many new programs and initiatives being left to the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC). Full analysis will be something rolled out over time as the ICC moves through the rulemaking process and the public has opportunity to provide input on the many programmatic authorized under CEJA 2021.
BOMA/Chicago’s staff, consultants and legislative team have prepared a simple bullet point summary of the content in the nearly 1000 page legislation with an analysis of the cost impact of CEJA’s major provisions and an estimate of the programs.
