City Council Passes Scooter Sharing Ordinance
On October 14, 2021, the City Council passed the updated Scooter Sharing ordinance, permanently authorizing the operation of scooter sharing services citywide.
The ordinance does not address either of the BOMA/Chicago concerns - requiring docked deployment of scooters in the CBD and requiring notice to building management before installation of new scooter/bike docking stations. However, the ordinance does grant the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) broad rulemaking authority over scooter sharing regulations.
BOMA/Chicago will engage with CDOT to encourage adoption of our concerns during the rulemaking process.
