2012 Property Manager of the Year Nancy Capadona
Nancy Capadona, Portfolio Manager with HEARN at the John Hancock Center, was the recipient of the 2012 Gold Circle Awards Property Manager of the Year.
How did you get involved in the commercial real estate industry? I really fell into the industry after working at an architectural firm out of college. I knew that real estate was tangential to architecture (as that was to my studies in art/architectural history) and I looked for assistant positions in any sector of the industry, not even knowing what property management was.
Tell us about one of your recent accomplishments at your building. The renovation of the building’s lobbies this year was a major undertaking in scope, especially given the mixed use nature of our building and all the parties which were affected. Communication was certainly key in making this process go as well as it did.
Throughout your membership with BOMA/Chicago, what experiences stand out the most to you? The education process with the RPA designation was key to my commitment to the field. I started the program within 3 months of my first job and it opened up doors to both information and people which solidified my decision to follow this as a career path.
What is your favorite BOMA/Chicago event and why? The Trade Show. I love seeing all the affiliates and having the chance to talk to them in a setting like the show provides, as well as all of my colleagues.
What piece of advice would you share with our emerging leaders? If you are interested in committing to a career in commercial real estate, stay engaged and involved in both your company and the industry at every opportunity. As one of my mentors always says “Raise your hand”.
What would you like to do in your life that you haven’t done so far? Live in Europe.
